The 9-11 Memorial Quilt Project

Pennsylvania, September 2005

September 2005 brought the quilts home to Pennsylvania.

Somerset County

On September 10, 2005, the Pennsylvania quilt was brought to Somerset County, near the Flight 93 crash site. At the county courthouse, family members of the passengers and crew viewed the quilt and held it up for photographs. Both Somerset County’s paper and Johnstown’s covered the visit that week; see the Daily American story and why it mattered in Johnstown.

Hershey

From September 22 to 24, 2005, all five quilts were shown at the Creative Arts & Teaching Show (CATS) in Hershey. Many of the stitchers came to see their squares in person, and several posed beside the quilts.

These photos were taken on the trip and posted on the project’s own site, and were recovered from the Internet Archive. Names come from the old captions. Every effort is being made to preserve the historic significance of this project, though we will respect credible requests to remove a photo. If you are in one of them, contact us.
